Why I Paint

I paint to quiet the storms within my mind.
I paint to stitch together the torn edges of my soul.
I paint to breathe light into the shadows of my past.

Each colour is a whisper of survival,
each stroke a prayer for healing,
each canvas a testimony that pain can bloom into beauty.

I paint not only for myself—
but for those who suffer silently,
for the unseen, the unheard,
for anyone searching for hope in the dark.

Through colour, I offer a hand,
a reminder that we can rise,
that joy is possible,
that even in brokenness,
we can shine.

My Story

2015年下乡时硬膜外穿刺.JPG

I am a self-taught, full-time artist based in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. Originally from China, I worked as an anesthesiologist before immigrating to Canada, where I discovered my passion for art and a new beginning through colour. Drawing deeply from my life journey—marked by trauma, resilience, and transformation—I channel my experiences into vibrant semi-abstract works that celebrate healing, strength, and joy.

My past was filled with hardship. Growing up, I endured a painful childhood shaped by gender discrimination, emotional trauma, and societal pressures that left me unseen and unheard. As a child, my joyful moments were rare, but I remember the simple happiness of receiving coloured pencils. Later, I pursued medicine and became a doctor in China, but the demands of life left little room for personal exploration. Despite professional success, I carried a quiet pain and struggled to find joy or belonging.

In 2021, I courageously left China for Canada. There, unable to practice medicine, I worked in restaurants and faced harsh challenges, questioning whether starting over was worth it. Yet I never stopped trying. One pivotal moment—a “painting date” with my true love—sparked my artistic journey. With no formal training, I began to experiment with colour, media, and styles. Painting became my therapy, my exploration, and my rediscovery of joy. Since then, I have never stopped creating.

My story and art have inspired countless people I have met at art fairs, markets, and galleries—especially those who feel unseen and unheard. Through my work, I hope to remind others that transformation is possible, healing is within reach, and even in life’s darkest moments, light can be found.

Now, I live in Newfoundland & Labrador with my husband, where I continue to create, inspire, and share my journey through colour. I launched two solo exhibitions, establishing myself as an independent, self-employed artist.
